Judge Damon Keith Endowed Scholars

Established by Judge Damon Keith. Out of State Student. Only students from Detroit Michigan area.
Keith Scholars will be students from Detroit area public schools, chosen to magnify the legacy of Judge Damon J. Keith while studying at WVSU. Students who aspire to become Keith Scholars must possess a record of academic excellence while exhibiting a social-equality perspective of the world that exemplifies the personal commitment of Judge Damon J. Keith to selfless deeds, scholarship, and love for humankind. Students who wish to be considered as Keith Scholars at WVSU must provide the following:

• A 3-5 page essay highlighting the significance of the life of Judge Keith and his contributions to society as a whole;
• An official high school transcript with a minimum overall grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale while earning a minimum score of 22 on the ACT or 1020 on the SAT;
• A demonstrated record of leadership that signifies the will to lead, while also embracing the concept of servant leadership; and
• A documented record of service to humanity through various philanthropic activities.

Keith Scholars will reside on a designated floor of Judge Damon J. Keith Scholars Hall and must continuously strive for academic excellence by maintaining a minimum 3.25 grade point average in their academic field of choice, while making satisfactory progress towards degree completion. Keith Scholars must continue to exhibit characteristics exemplifying a spirit of humanitarianism, philanthropy and justice for all persons, by engaging as integral components of the social fabric of the University in its mission to enhance the lives of others through leadership and service.
